You See, I See, We See

Down the dreaded hall

You see a scared shivering person

I see a great opportunity

To be a new friend

In a horrible hall

You see a fight

I see it too

We see no one go to stop it

The halls are full of things

Horrifying and joyous

You see people making friends

I see groups according to popularity

You see, I see, we see it all

Those everyday unwilling and unchanging things

That no one seems to care about

I see cold hearts, you see hatred

We see it all

[2007]

After 18 years, this still rings true. What once was about high school halls, is now about the real world and the unwavering truth that no one wants to admit is real. It's about a world who doesn't want to accept or see the real in people, points it's cruel finger at those different than oneself. It's never too late to make a difference, even just a small one. A difference in someone's life as small as listening, judgement free, with open hearts. We all bleed. We all feel. It's how we chose to make others around us feel, intentionally or not. We can make a peace with humanity, it just takes courage, small gestures without being asked, and an understanding we can make this world a better place.
