If I Could

If I could help one child that is frightened by thunder,
to stop him from crying,
and if I could stop one child of hunger,
to stop him from dying;
So he can climb the highest mountain,
and live his life to the fullest,
so he can drink from every fountain,
and he could see that his life is not the dullest.
If I could stop one child of sadness,
have a little joy,
and if I could fill one child with gladness,
to bring joy to a boy;
So he can wear a big smile,
and bring joy to every soul,
so he could run a long mile,
and make his life goal.
If I could give one child a home,
to get him out of the nighttime,
and if I could give a child a dome,
to give him a home for a lifetime;
So he can feel the warmth,
to feel the safety,
so he can be out of the storm,
to live a life of curiosity.
If I could hear his wedding bells,
to see the joy in his eyes,
and if I could see that he tells,
the joys he had in all the skies;
So he can tell the world,
to tell them that he cares,
so he can tell them that he never quarrels,
to tell them that he always shares.
If I could see what he would do when my lifetime ends,
to see his tears,
and if I could tell that he knows he was not a bum,
to see his smile of all the years;
So he knows he was loved,
to know he was cared for,
so he knows he was never shoved,
to know that he can sore.
